Music artist poster

This is a promotional poster for the rock band 'Kings of Leon.' They've used yellow as a dominant colour against the black, to highlight the band's vibrancy and embed the idea that their music stands out. Yellow has connotations of wealth and happiness, while the black has links towards darkness. This contrast in emotions suggest that the album or single this poster is promoting deals with equally contrasting and possibly controversial topics.

The genre of music is identified by the men being grouped together and using electric guitars, which are both stereotypically associated with the rock genre. In terms of typography, the font's sharpness and jagged edges resemble knives and therefore connote aggression and violence (other common themes in the rock genre).

The excessive flares of sunlight links to the idea of hope, and the fact that this is accompanied by a bright blue sky implies that this band is somewhat refreshing.

This analysis has given me perspective, when it comes to conveying a genre through visual codes, and has also given me ideas for the magazine advertisement that we have to construct.
